DIRECT ROUTING QUESTIONS

What is Direct Routing?
Direct Routing connects Microsoft Teams to the public telephone network (PSTN) via a certified Session Border Controller (SBC) and your chosen SIP trunk, allowing Teams users to make and receive external calls.
Do I need to change my phone numbers?
No. We port your existing UK numbers (geographic, DDI, 0800) to the new platform so users keep the same numbers.
Is Direct Routing cheaper than Microsoft Calling Plans?
Yes — Direct Routing uses your own SIP trunk, typically costing 30–60% less per minute than Microsoft's Calling Plans, especially for high call volumes.
Do I need to buy new phones?
No physical phones are required. Teams softphone works on PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. We can supply certified Teams desk phones if needed.
What Microsoft licences are needed?
Users need Microsoft 365 Business Voice or an E3/E5 licence with Phone System add-on. We'll advise the most cost-effective licence combination.
How long does Direct Routing take to set up?
Typically 1–3 weeks depending on number porting timescales. New numbers can be live within 2–3 business days.
